New Year\u2019s Day, Capo d\u2019Anno, the first day of 2020.\u00a0 Probably I ought to have finished yesterday: reflections on the old year, wrapped up in a highlight reel, and hit Send.\u00a0 But Janus faces both ways, past and future, so here we are.\u00a0 With photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jim and I\nreally got around last year\u2014from Florida in January for Aunt Esther\u2019s 100th<\/sup>\nto Israel in December for our granddaughter\u2019s bat mitzvah, reunions with\nfriends and family in Sardegna and Provence, Florida again in October, and the\nusual back-and-forth between Mondovi` and Freetown, we logged a lot of\nmiles. Flight shame? I know, I know, but we\u2019re a far-flung\nfamily. When we found ourselves at\nhome together we welcomed visiting friends and relations from USA, Prague, and\nFreiburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I cut my long hair, finished the kitchen with a handsome countertop and two bright stools, travelled (by train!) with Melissa to Firenze, and gave myself a little birthday party at the beautifully restored Caffe’ Sociale in Mondovi` station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2020 will\nbe Jim\u2019s 70th<\/sup> year, and Aunt Esther\u2019s 101st<\/sup>. Mom is still enjoying life at 96,\nanticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild this spring. Our elder grandson will be 18\u2014a\nfirst-time voter! We\u2019d like to\ncelebrate our 35th<\/sup> wedding anniversary in Casablanca, and we plan to attend my 50th<\/sup> high school reunion. Lots to look forward to, inevitably lots\nof surprises too.
