A Sense of deja vu
The morning of 20 September 2014 began with a sense of déjà vu. Once again I watched, as I had a month earlier, heavy machines crawling down the narrow road toward our house. This time they were two enormous flatbed trucks, the first equipped with a gigantic crane whose purpose was to lift a second, freestanding crane and place it on the graveled bed inside our cortile. Except for their almost unimaginable size and weight, it was like seeing a couple of toys maneuvering outside a miniature house. The operation took care and deliberation; all the men involved knew their jobs and did them with minimal excitement or discussion, and after a couple of hours all was quiet again. Our gru had arrived. Now anyone scanning the treetops and skies around our little valley could plainly see that our project was finally underway.
